Brow Lift

Introduction

A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to correct the effects of aging skin on the upper portion of the face.  A brow lift will smooth or soften forehead wrinkles and raise sagging eyebrows to create a young, less tired or fresh looking face.  A brow lift improves the appearance of horizontal wrinkles on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows.  The procedure is especially popular among people who are 35 to 60 years old and interested in facial rejuvenation.  Brow lifts can be performed by themselves or performed at the same time as facelifts, eyelid lifts, nose reshaping, or skin resurfacing treatments.

Your doctor will initially evaluate your overall facial features, skin integrity, and bone structure.  You should tell your doctor about your concerns and desired outcome.

Treatment

There are a few surgery techniques that can be used for a brow lift, and your doctor will help you select the most appropriate option for you.

A brow lift can be accomplished with traditional “open” cosmetic surgery or endoscopic surgery.  The traditional surgery method uses an incision made behind the hairline.  You may want to grow your hair out before surgery so that it is long enough to cover the healing incision after surgery.  For people who are bald or balding, a mid-scalp incision minimizes the appearance of the incision scar.

Endoscopic surgery is less invasive than traditional surgery.  The surgeon uses a tiny camera, an endoscope, to guide the surgery.  Several small incisions are made behind the hairline to insert narrow surgery instruments.  Through visualization through the camera, appropriate muscles can be resected or released and sutures accurately place to raise the brow skin.
